K-4 Tech Apps Teachers Venture into Exciting World of Robotics!
Today, MISD K-4 Technology Applications Teachers built robots using Lego Robotics kits and programmed them to navigate around obstacles.
Carrie Pilant of Imogene Gideon and Christene Hanus of D.P. Morris won bragging rights (and a tasty set of three Pixy Stix candy-filled fun straws) when their robot was the first to master the obstacle course.
Mrs. Hanus said, “It was fabulous! I enjoyed the problem solving involved in navigating the course. I had to reprogram the robot to get it to go through the course correctly.”
Please view the clip below to see this robot be the first to complete the challenge as other K-4 teach apps teachers provide moral support!
Area Superintendent Dr. Sarah Jandrucko, whose legs are pictured in the video, was on hand during a second demonstration.

This was a wonderful experience. I really enjoyed learning about a whole new area of interest for our students. The first kit would be useful to all and the second kit would be good for fourth grade, enrichment clubs and activity time.
Robotics rock! The students would benefit greatly from experimenting with robotics from younger students on up. It covers a lot of the TEKS and beyond.
What a great workshop–we need $$$ to implement with our students–they will LOVE building these robots. What an eye-opening experience–the possibilities are endless!
Way to go Sis! So glad you won those bragging rights… I am jealous! Sounds like it was a blast!
The Robotic Training was awesome! This is an excellent way to incorporate Math, Science and even Language Arts with technology! All we need is $$ so our students can explore to world of robotics.
Our students would love to get their hands on these robots. Great STEM project!
This was one of the most engaging teacher development classes I have ever taken. What some of us loved the most is that this was fun for girls too! We usually think of boys when we think robots. This would be a great way to infuse technology into the classroom.
