Important: Login to Novell on Monday, June 7

Preparations for the Novell to Microsoft upgrade require that all staff members login to Novell on Monday, June 7. A small program will be installed on your computer that will copy the “My Documents” folder from your computer to a location on the network.

You should also back up your files yourself using the processes outlined on the technology end of year checklist. This backup process is designed to serve as an added precaution for your most important files.

Because of the large size of the “My Videos” and “My Music” folders, these folders will not be backed up using this process. Most of these files appear to be personal music and videos. Please be sure to back up those files yourself if you want to keep them.

If you have documents in other locations that you want backed up by the District, these files need to be moved into your “My Documents” folder, too.

Once the program is installed, it will continue to back up the “My Documents” folder for you each time the computer is logged into Novell.

Again, these backup procedures are in addition to the ones on the technology end of year checklist.

Working together, we can make sure that the transition from Novell to Microsoft goes smoothly.

Please check MISD TechNotes throughout the summer for more information about technology upgrades.

What do those of us do who are attending our child’s graduation on Monday and won’t be at school to log in to our teacher computer?

    • Thanks for the great question! If you’ve already checked out for the summer, you’ve already completed the process of backing up your computer. If you will be back on campus, please just login at that time. If you won’t, please just call the Help Desk so that we can get a work order keyed for you. As an added precaution, we will ask for a roster of employees who are out today so that we can help to meet those needs. Congratulations to your family on your child’s graduation!

Is there a link that non-teachers could use to access the procedures for backing up things? They have an “end of year checklist” that tells them how to do it but we (Maintenance, Transportation, Student Nutrition, Police, Purchasing, etc) do not have that information.

I think this transition is definitely a smart decision. I believe it will benefit 110% of the MISD Staff. Appreciate the helpful tips on “My Documents” folder.

The title above is covering some of the words in the right hand column. Right above the box where it says, “Sign me up” are some words that have been blocked. What would we be signing up for?

    • You are signing up to receive an email every time that MISD TechNotes is updated. We only send out emails to all MISD users when there is a very important announcement. Signing up means that you get each update.
