MISD Robotics Expands: Nineteen coaches attend initial training!

Today, nineteen robotics coaches from across MISD are participating in initial training at the Police/Technology Building. The workshop focuses on how to build and program LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robots in order to lead robotics clubs.

The training featured this highlight video of MISD Robotics events:

An MISD Foundation grant and funds from corporate sponsors are being combined with district resources to double the number of teams for the 2013-2014 school year.

Cora Spencer Elementary coach Steven Buchan identified several ways in which robotics can help students learn. “This will be great for learning decimals, distance, conversion . . . math and science in general.”

Steven added that robotics provides great opportunities to develop critical thinking skills. “There’s a lot of trial and error, too,” he said.

J.L. Boren Elementary teacher Casey Lambert successfully navigates his robot into a parking space during today’s robotics coach training at the MISD Police and Technology Center.
