Please continue to check this site for more information about this year’s MISD iPad Deployment.

Parents of MISD High School Students:

We’ve been working this summer to prepare for the upcoming school year and add some features that we think MISD families will appreciate.

The program will continue to be optional this year.

Please review the information in this post, which may be helpful in determining whether the program is a good match for your son or daughter!

Online Registration and iPads

MISD will offer online registration for returning students through Skyward this year. Many of the forms that parents have had to complete in paper form in previous years can now be completed online. The new iPad User Agreement is part of that process and is available for you to review and sign through that system. If you need help accessing and using Skyward Online Registration, please call 817.299.1974 or email  misdregistration@misdmail.org. To view a video about the process, please use this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAkBHiqYYes&feature=c4-overview&list=UUy0LhfzcbbSS1bwjwYWUZZg.

Mobile Theft Management Service

MISD iPads will be covered by a new Mobile Theft Management service this year. This is at no additional charge.

Provided that steps outlined in the iPad User Agreement are followed, liability for the student will be limited to $50.00 for replacement of the device. In cases where there is substantial evidence of criminal involvement on the part of the student, the liability limitation will not apply, and the student will be responsible for the full amount. Please see the iPad User Agreement for details.

The Mobile Theft Management service was not available when our program was first rolled out, and we’re pleased to be able to offer it this year.

Deposits

If a student paid a nonrefundable fee last year while participating in the program and didn’t lose the iPad, that fee will be credited toward a refundable deposit of $50.

Any outstanding iPad-related fines will need to be cleared prior to checking out a device for the 2013-2014 school year.

A reduced deposit option of $25 is available for students who qualify for reduced price lunches and $10 for students who qualify for free lunches. If a student qualified for the free and reduced lunch program last year but does not qualify this year, s/he will need to pay additional funds to increase the amount of his/her deposit to $50. For students who participate in the program in 2013-2014, as stated in the terms of the new iPad User Agreement, deposits are now refundable upon separation from the district (moving, graduation, etc.) provided that equipment is returned according to the terms of the agreement.

The first round of any refunds that are due will be issued during October 2013.

TIP: Parents are strongly encouraged to apply for the free and reduced lunch program if needed prior to paying the refundable deposit. Refunds of excess amounts paid in create unnecessary delays in the process due to the additional time and effort required to issue them. The first round of refunds due under the new agreement will take place in October 2013. Check back for additional details.

Please see the following link for the free and reduced lunch program application, which can be completed online: http://www.mansfieldisd.org/page.cfm?p=4681. Confidentiality of students who participate in the program will be protected.

To make the process of paying the deposit easier, online payment of the deposit is available using this electronic payment site:

http://mansfieldisd.revtrak.net/tek9.asp

Be sure to select the correct school and follow directions carefully.

For students who prefer to pay using a check, deposits may be paid to the campus bookkeeper. Please make checks out to your child’s campus.

Deployment Plans

iPads will be deployed earlier this year.

Returning high school students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) at Frontier, Legacy, Mansfield, Summit, and Timberview High Schools may complete the process of picking up iPads during the week of August 13-16 at the time scheduled for schedule pickup at their campuses. Please note that iPad deployment is the last station in the schedule pickup process.

TIP: Please see http://www.mansfieldisd.org/page.cfm?p=5099 for specific start times at each school.

The lines for iPad deployment will close at 3:00 PM each day.

TIP: The process of setting up an iPad and completing the orientation required to activate the Mobile Theft Management service may take two hours or more. Please plan accordingly. If a student leaves prior to completing the entire process, s/he will need to leave the iPad and plan to start the deployment process over at another time.

Lake Ridge High School iPad Deployment is scheduled for returning MISD high school students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) on August 19 and 20 from 8:00 – 3:00.

Alternative Education Center iPad Deployment is scheduled on August 21 from 8:00-3:00 for returning MISD sophomore, junior, and senior students.

Make-up days will be offered. That schedule will be finalized once it’s clear how many are needed.

Account setup for Freshmen, Students who are New to MISD, and Students who did not Participate in the Program Last Year but want to Participate this Year

The account setup process (iTunes and MISD Gmail and Google Drive accounts) can be time-consuming, and it is necessary to complete it prior to getting an iPad. Because this part of the process is only necessary for students who did not participate in the program last year, dates are set in the deployment calendar for account setup for freshmen, students who are new to MISD, and returning students who did not participate in the program last year but want to this year.

Sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are new to MISD and returning MISD students who did not participate in the program last year but want to this year can complete account setup between 1:00 and 3:00 PM at their campuses on August 12. Labs will be open and staffed to help with this process.

Incoming freshmen at Lake Ridge High School will complete account setup activities as part of schedule pickup on August 14.

Incoming freshmen at Legacy, Mansfield, Summit, and Timberview High Schools will complete account setup processes (iTunes and MISD Gmail and Google Drive accounts) as part of the schedule pickup process at their campuses on August 15.

Deployment for incoming freshmenstudents who are new to Mansfield ISD, and students who did not participate in the program last year but want to this year is scheduled from August 30 – September 5.

Schedules for these dates will be finalized once it’s clear how many students will participate at each campus and the number of days that will be needed. Dates for each campus will be released on the first day of school. Make-up dates will be planned once the number needed can be projected.
